"The news last week that exoplanet Gliese 581g may be in the "goldilocks zone" and could therefore hold liquid water and alien life got everyone all excited, with good reason. At the rate of technological advancement I reckon we will have the capabilities to reach this planet at the earliest of 2040-45

ReplyDeleteat the current development of space flight technology, i would say that 2045 is a very liberal estimate. 35 years ago, we were doing a lot of the things we do today, and a lot of the inovations are centered around humans in space, not flight. if this was the cold war, and the planet was full of riches/weapons/other means of power, then it could happen "relatively" quick.
